Jewelry Gallery at Birch Grove Studios
Vickie Cole's fascinating jewelry is featured in the gallery.
|
Vickie Cole, a long time and acclaimed weaver in Alaska, has also been making one-of-a-kind metal jewelry for several years in the Birch Grove Studios. She specializes in using copper and found objects to make necklaces, chokers, and earrings. |

These unique pieces have won several awards; for instance, a necklace made of many small spoons both found and crafted by her won the Juror’s Choice Award at the "Eggsibition" at Mat-Su College in Palmer, Alaska. |
Educated as an archeologist, Vickie uses her knowledge to help “see” how common modern day objects can be used in art jewelry. Bullet casings, sea shells, trinket heart charms, and bits of aluminum arrows are examples of different items which have been incorporated into her pieces. |

Vickie solders copper, brass, and some silver with propane/oxygen and uses wire wrapping, and twining to create her works. One of her most interesting works utilized round pieces of copper from an old furnace. Most of her pieces are non-representational; however, some have themes, such as spoons, hearts, and even chickens. |
